Notes

  • The rank of Captain should not be confused with the position of 'starship captain' which can be held by a Commander or Captain as determined by the class of vessel.
  • The rank of Fleet Captain is conveyed to a senior Captain who retains command of an individual starship; they may also, from time to time, be responsible for a small group of vessels on a temporary basis.
  • The rank of Commodore is an officer who has command of a small group of vessels on a permanent basis but does not generally command an individual starship, or is in command of a starbase or another facility of significance. The rank of Commodore is considered a junior Flag Officer.

Flag Officers

Starfleet Flag Officers–or Admiralty–display their rank on the cuffs of their duty uniforms (and epaulettes in the case of dress uniforms). In the case of service uniforms, the rank is displayed on the cuffs, epaulettes and an admiralty badge is worn in place of the standard issue Starfleet badge.
